Star Anise in Vietnam
In Vietnam, star anise was grown more than 100 years ago and it is presently grown mainly in the northern provinces, with an area of about 50,000 ha, concentrated in the provinces of Lang Son, Quang Ninh, and Cao Bang.
According to statistics of the World Spices Association, Vietnam is the world’s second-largest producer of spices, after only China.
Harvesting Star Anise
Anise is planted for 5 to 6 years, after which it begins to produce flowers and fruits, although not in large quantities. Star anise is normally collected in two crops: one from June to October and the second from January to April the next year.

TYPES OF STAR ANISE
STAR ANISEED AUTUMN CROP
Star Aniseed Autumn Crop is known to be the best of the two types of star anise because they have a more flavorful essential oil and this crop gives a better yield. They are harvested during the beginning of the first rains of the season from September to the end of October every year. After harvesting, the star anise will be dried and their color will also begin to change from reddish-brown to dark brown.
