Raw cashew nut is known as unshelled cashew nuts, the outer shell is rough and hard, and it contains Anacardic acid, which causes harmful skin burns in humans. As a result, the production process product must be meticulously prepared and inspected in order to reduce any risks.
Processing of cashew nut
Step 1: Preparing Raw Material
After the cashew nut ripens and drops off, the cashew harvester will proceed to separate the raw nut from the cashew. While separating the nut from the cashew, no part of the cashew apple should be in the cashew nut. The quality of raw cashew nuts will be greatly affected if the cashew apple and cashew nut are not completely separated.
Step 2: Drying the raw cashews in the sun.
After separating the raw cashew nuts, we will dry the cashew in the sun for at least 2 days. Unshelled cashew is usually dried in the sun and constantly stirred after harvesting until the moisture content of the nut is between 8-10%.
Step 3: Steaming raw cashew kernels.
After the raw cashew nut is dried in the sun, they are carried to the processing factory. Sybil Agri frequently uses the steaming method of raw cashew nuts to remove the hard outer shell and then separate the cashew nut to obtain the kernel.
Step 4: Cutting the hard-shell.
The factory receives raw cashews and prepares them for shelling (the exterior hardware – the cashew shell) and husking. After steaming the shell of the cashew to soften it, the shell of the raw cashew nut is removed with a specialized knife, and gets the inner kernel. This is a very difficult stage that requires skilled workers to detach the shell without breaking the inner kernel of the cashew kernel.
Step 5: Drying the cashew kernels.
After peeling, Sybil Agri can dry the cashew kernels in the sun or by machine to store them for a long time. Cashew kernels with a moisture content of 3-4 % meet export standards and store longer. Besides, it also makes the soft shell of cashews simpler to remove.
Step 6: Removing the cashew husk.
To obtain the cashew kernel, the silk skin of the cashew must be removed. The kernels are separated from their silk skins after being left in the open air for 12 hours. This cooling will help make the cashew nut shelling process easier. After that, these white nuts are sent to the sorting department.
Step 7: Color Sorting & Quality Examination.
The grading system is used to categorize white cashew kernels into several grades. The size, color, and texture of the nuts are frequently used to grade them. Of which, the classifications are done using international standards.
Step 8: Metal Detector.
Before being packed, cashew kernels must be examined for impurities using a metal detector. Cashews are packaged in various sizes of plastic bags for sale or distribution.
Step 9: Packing and storage.
The packing and packaging used to transport cashew kernels must be sturdy enough to endure exterior pressure without causing damage to the interior. The cashew packaging is designed to protect the goods and the dimensions of the package have to be compatible with standard pallet and container sizes.
